The Public Health Department (DPH), within College of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences, of Babeș-Bolyai University was founded in the fall of 2015 by the faculty and staff working for one of the leading public health research institutions in Romania, in order to advance public health education in Eastern Europe and teach students how to promote health and prevent diseases. The scientific activity of the Public Health Department focuses on the submission and implementation of projects for the research-development-innovation, capacity building, and mobility on different subdomains of public health, medicine, and social and economic sciences. Up to this moment, the department was involved in projects worth more than 9.000.000 Euro, having partners from 30 other countries. The aim is to improve the health of the people from Romania and Central and Eastern Europe through interdisciplinary collaboration for research and practice in the public health domain. Until now, this has been done by participating in large scale projects. The department of public health is the only entity in the region that has begun focusing on population-based studies, prevention strategies, and public health interventions.
